I’d really enjoyed the Toxie songs I heard online, and I’m a big fan of guitarist Madison’s other band, Coasting. So when I saw that they were playing this weekend with fine local acts Bruiser Queen and The Brainstems, I decided to email the Firebird booker to see if I could DJ the night. To my surprise, he was into it.
In general, it was one of those casual, mildly-attended Sunday night shows. The place never filled up, but enough were there to make it feel cozy. Knowing Toxie’s Suburban Lawns fixation, I intended to go pure new wave and post-punk. As usual, the music took me in different directions at times. It went pretty well for the most part, so I may well have the opportunity to DJ there again. Here’s what I played.
